FloridaWorks partnered with the University of Florida’s Office of Technology Licensing to provide entrepreneurship training to 83 unemployed, highly skilled professionals and the opportunity to work in 13 hand-selected teams, each under the direction of a successful entrepreneur/mentor/CEO for a total of 10 weeks.
On May 11th, the groups pitched business plans to a panel of early stage investor judges, who came from across the country to participate at the Gainesville Country Club, for the training program finale. The top four winning teams were awarded cash prizes for their presentations.
The mentors came from both near and far. A few even Skyped in to help their group succeed. This group of dedicated mentors included Jamie Grooms, co-founder and former CEO of Regeneration Technologies and Axogen; Eric Godet, president of Godet Industries International; Randy Scott, former CEO of Novamin Technology Inc., and many more.
With such great success, such as one of the Startup Quest mentors requesting to license one of the technologies to form a company including some of the program participants, FloridaWorks hopes to replicate this program in the future.
