FloridaWorks News

FloridaWorks attends many community events in order to educate people about the array of services we offer. Recently, FloridaWorks had a booth and was featured at the Gainesville Sports Commission's (GSC) Annual Meeting. The Gainesville Sports Commission's Annual meeting was attended by 190 business and community leaders.
The annual meeting highlighted swimming and 112 of this year's Learn-to-Swim graduates were in attendance to receive their diplomas. 2008 Olympic Gold Medalist, Cullen Jones, was the featured speaker. He spoke about his childhood, how he almost drowned as child, his love for swimming, and how is hard work and dedication took him all the way to the Olympics. After winning the gold in 2008, he began working with the USA Swimming Foundation's Make-a-Splash Program and is dedicated to helping minority children how to swim.
Four FloridaWorks TechQuest youth were in attendance. They were inspired by Jones' story and how he overcame the odds to become a world champion, world record holder, and Olympian. The youth networked with business people in hopes of securing work opportunities and internships this spring. The youth program will provide students with internship opportunities that are focused on learning customer service skills.
