FloridaWorks Seeks Bids for Videographers

FloridaWorks News

FloridaWorks is seeking bids for short 1-2 minute customer testimonial videos for jobseekers and employers for YouTube Channel. Price is requested on a per video basis. It is expected that somewhere between 10 and 50 videos will be created. Acceptance is solely the option of the staff supervising the project and no obligation is made to any vendor to accept his/her video in advance of viewing. Payment will be made within 30 days to vendor, upon written acceptance of the submitted videos and receipt of written invoice. Videographers will receive a 1099 for their work, if the total paid is above $600.

Free Dental Services

Community News

Millhopper Family Dentistry - 3510 NW 43 St Gainesville, FL - will be offering free dental services to those who cannot afford it on Saturday, February 18th beginning at 8:00am.

The first 100 people who arrive at Millhopper Family Dentistry will receive services.  Dental services being offered for free are extractions, fillings, and cleanings.

A Night at the Museum

Community News

Passport to Discovery: A Night at the Museum is a gala fundraiser being held by the University of Florida Foundation, at the Natural History Museum on February 24 from 7:00-11:00pm. This year's Night at the Museum is being called a "miracle of animation" that will whisk attendees into another world as they see the Natural History Museum come alive under the Klieg Lights. 

A Night at the Museum costs $100 per attendee and includes dinner and entertainment. For more information about the event, click here.

Rugged Maniac

Community News

Rugged Maniac is a 5K race through obstacles and rugged terrain. The race and festival are being held at Waldo Motorsports - 16258 NE US Highway 301 Waldo, FL - on February 25 beginning at 8:45am. The race is structured in waves of 350 contestants beginning every 30 minutes. The first wave of contestants begin at 8:45am and the last wave begins at 4:00pm.

The race will include obstacles such as tunnels, mud pits, barricades, barbed wire and many more. After the race, contestants can enjoy the festival and spectators who don't want to race can purchase tickets to the festival only and enjoy live music, food, vendors, and games. The festival ends at 7:00pm.

TechQuest III Scheduled for March

The third TechQuest class will begin March 12th, and will last eight weeks. TechQuest is an entrepreneurship training program for youth. The students receive tablets in order to facilitate learning and teach them about the importance of technology’s role in business. The class features successful entrepreneurs as guest speakers, interactive projects, and classroom learning.

TechQuest III will give over 30 high school aged students insight into what it takes to start and own a business. Each student can apply these entrepreneurial skills to their life, work experience, and education.  Topics that will be covered are basic money management, the power of persistence, building a brand, recognizing opportunities, and more. Free Self Defense Class

The Gainesville Dojo - 536 SW 2 Ave Gainesville, FL - is offering a free two day self defense class on February 18 and 19 from 1:00pm-4:00pm. Instructors will teach a variety of methods for basic self defense. 

Some things attendees will learn include basic strikes, body positioning and awareness, psychological knowledge, awareness of surroundings, what can be used as a weapon, how to escape from holds, and ground work.

Alachua Library Celebrates 30 Years

The Alachua Library Celebrates it's 30th Anniversary on February 19, from 2:00-4:00pm.  The anniversary event will have punch, cake, and feature the moments that helped make the Alachua Library what it is today.

Winter Fine Arts Fair

The Gainesville Fine Arts Association is hosting the 5th annual Winter Fine Arts Fair at the Tioga Town Center in Newberry, FL.  The event will feature over 100 artists, vendors, and live music.

FIFI, B-29 Superfortress Tour Stop

FIFI, the B-29 Superfortress and queen of the Commemorative Air Force's (CAF) fleet of vintage military aircraft, will begin its eight week Florida tour at the Gainesville Regional Airport - Off NE 39th Ave, near Waldo Road in Gainesville, FL - on February 27 and 28. The airplane will be accessible to the public Monday from 1:00pm-5:00pm and Tuesday from 9:00am-5:00pm. Take a tour of the plane or go for a ride on the only flying B-29 in the world.

Stroll Down Lover's Lane

This Valentine's Day, Haile Village Center will be transformed into a romantic stroll for lovers from 6:00pm-10:00pm. Along the walk, lovers can enjoy live music, dance performances, and carriage rides. Tickets to the event can be purchased before ($30 regular or $50 VIP) or at the door ($40 regular or $60 VIP) and give couples access to the Valentine's Ball, appetizers and desserts at Sister's Restaurant, a bouquet, and more!

Five Points of Life Race

The Five Points of Life Race Weekend begins February 18 with a 5K race, Kids Marathon, and Fitness Expo and ends on February 19 with a full Marathon, Half Marathon, and Marathon Relay.

Five Points of Life is a foundation of LifeSouth Community Centers to raise awareness of the need for donations of blood, apheresis, marrow, cord blood, organ, and tissue.
