Just a reminder, the end of the Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) Program is fast approaching. The last payable week on the EUC Program is week ending on December 29, 2012, regardless of any benefits remaining in an individual's account at that time. This applies to all Tiers of the Emergency Unemployment Compensation.
December 16, 2012 is the last effective date to establish Tier I eligibility.
December 23, 2012 is the last effective date to be eligible under Tiers II and III. To establish eligibility, the previous tier must be exhausted by the week ending December 22, 2012.
The last payable week on any tier (Tier I, II, III or IV) will be the week ending December 29, 2012.

Navy Tri-Base Job Fair

The Navy Fleet and Family Support Centers including NS Mayport, NAS Jacksonville, NSB Kings Bay will be hosting a Navy Tri-Base Job Fair. Eligible job seekers include: separating, retiring or retired service members with ID cards, military spouses and family members with ID cards, involuntarily separated service members and their families with Transition Assistance (TA) ID cards or separated service members up to 180 days after their separation date. Community Conversations 2012

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL - The Alachua County Board of County Commissioners invites citizens to participate in "Community Conversations 2012." These public events are happening throughout the County during the month of August. Community Conversation events are free, but registration is required. Light refreshments will be served.

The events feature a brief presentation of the County's budget and issues facing the County. During each session, participants use electronic survey tools to gather opinions on a number of local issues. Participants are also given opportunities to suggest solutions to these issues. Community Conversations 2012 also features an interactive budget exercise, in which participants act as County Commissioners and collaborate with others to establish budget priorities.

GatorSavers' CPR & AED Training

Community News

GatorSavers is hosting a one day event whereby Gators, both UF students, faculty and the surrounding communities, come together to save lives. This one day event offers CPR training with AED certification for only $5.00, an opportunity to save lives by donating blood, and sign up for bone marrow, organ and tissue registries.

This event is taking place on February 9, 2013 from 9am to 5pm at the J. Wayne Reitz Union, Rion Ballroom on the University of Florida campus. Parking is free on Saturday. For more information, visit www.gatorsavers.org

The goals for the day include:

1. Certify 750 people in CPR with AED.

2. Collect 150 units of blood.

3. Have 150 join lifesaving registries.

 

CPR Details: There will be three different two-hour session to choose from with a limit of 250 spots per session:

- Session 1: 9:30am-11:30am

- Session 2: 12:00pm-2:00pm

- Session 3: 2:30pm - 4:30pm

Gainesville Job Fair Yields Over 1,200 in Attendance

Over 1,200 people looking for jobs were stationed outside of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Multipurpose Center last Tuesday, and over 55 employers were waiting inside with open positions to fill.

Collaboratively, City of Gainesville, FloridaWorks, Regional Transit System, Santa Fe College, Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce, Gainesville Regional Utilities, and Gainesville's Office of Equal Opportunity hosted the Gainesville Job Fair. Different from previous city job fairs, Gainesville’s Office of Equal Opportunity invited community partners to the planning table and local employers and companies to participate in the fair. Some of the companies in attendance were Alachua County Public Schools, City College, Comfort Keepers, Gainesville Regional Airport, The ARC of Alachua County, Inc., Info Tech, Inc. and more.

Startup Quest Launch Recap

FloridaWorks, University of Florida Office of Technology Licensing and Santa Fe College welcomed over 60 attendees, consisting of regional workforce board representatives of BASEC, community stakeholders, local employers and guests throughout the state of Florida, to its launch event for the expansion of Startup Quest, an entrepreneurship training program for out-of-work, degree holding professionals piloted in Gainesville.

Startup Quest Launch took place at Florida Innovation Hub at UF on Wednesday, August 29 from 1:00-6:00pm, and continued at Santa Fe College’s Center for Innovation and Economic Development (CIED) the following day from 9:00am-1:00pm.

The two-day event was filled with presentations from community partners instrumental in the creation of Startup Quest and work sessions where the new Business Advocacy and Self-Employment Consortium (BASEC) members began implementation planning for the $11.95 million Workforce Innovation Fund grant they were recently awarded to replicate this entrepreneurship initiative in their respective communities.

As Tropical Storm Isaac heads to the United States, the American Red Cross encourages people to download the new Hurricane App to get instant access to hurricane safety steps and weather alerts for areas in the path of the storm. The free app, launched earlier this month, can be used on both iPhone and Android platforms.

The Hurricane App can be found in the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store for Android by searching for American Red Cross. National Red Cross experts in health, safety and preparedness have thoroughly reviewed and field tested the information and advice provided in this app.
